As a vacationer, we usually look to key tourist spots and leisure activities in other countries,  like shopping in Hong Kong , surfing in Hawaii, and exploring Machu Picchu.

In the Philippines, that means visiting famous landmarks like the Mayon Volcano, water skiing and partying in Boracay, or diving in the pristine waters around Panglao Island.

I never really thought much about the island of Siquijor, except that it’s a place of mystery and horror, due to its infamous reputation as the land of mangkukulam (voodoos), aswangs (ghouls), enkantos (fairies), and other paranormal beings.  It is also home to numerous spooky landmarks, such as the Man Tree, a gigantic tree believed to be inhabited by spirits.  Or the creepy statue of Sta. Rita de Cascia (better known by her nickname Black Magic Maria) whose piercing red eyes and stance holding a skull and an upside-down crucifix that would really send shivers down your spine.  And what about villages where you can consult faith healers  for your wellbeing or sorcerers who can deliver a hex similar to Voldemort’s Avada Kedavra? So, it was not really on my bucket list to visit a place where I might cross paths with one of these.

It wasn’t till TBEX organized a tour to spend a few days on the island. Just a quick stop on a quiet, little vacation place called Infinity Heights Resort.  It was actually the first hillside luxury resort to operate on the island, with only three luxury and four duplex style cottages. The setup allows the resort guests to enjoy an exclusive and peaceful respite from the daily humdrums of the world.  Now “luxury resort” doesn’t sound scary at all to me, so it got me all excited.

Infinity Heights Siquijor is located about 2 kilometers from the coastline.  Being elevated, it gives you a spectacular panoramic view of the ocean and on a clear day, even the islands of Cebu and Bohol.  It is also perfect for catching a good glimpse of the awesome sunset.

Cottages all offer different views of the vicinity, depending on whether you want ocean or rainforest views on the north, or serene mountains on the east.

The restaurant offers international fare all expertly made by the chef.  It is open for all meals and snacks are available throughout the day. Likewise, the exotic drinks at the bar really help guests chill out.  And if you want to, you can pre-arrange your own meal at the restaurant; just give notice to the chef.

But what really blew me away was the resort’s infinity pool, humongous and cleverly shaped like a guitar.  The water is so clear and inviting that one cannot help but want to dive right in.

The pool is surrounded by a stone slate deck area where you can stretch out and sunbathe on ultra-comfortable lounging chairs. The pool provides outstanding views of the ocean as well.  It is open to guests day and night, and the evening lighting gives the whole pool area a dreamy ambience at sundown and beyond. It captured the very magical essence of Siquijor. The infinity pool seems to have its own charm of luring you to stick around for a while longer.  Maybe even forever (I wish!)

And after a truly amazing swim in the pool, you can relax with a therapeutic massage or manicure/pedicure at a secluded area of the resort. The massage area has great ocean views, too.

Infinity Heights in Siquijor offers numerous other outdoor activities like jungle walks, bike rides, jet skiing, sailing, diving, and snorkeling.  You can also arrange with the resort for special excursions to nearby beaches, islands, old churches, coral reefs, and even infamous faith healers.
