Manila Pub Crawl is Back!

The First and Biggest Pub Crawl in the Philippines is back in Manila!

Manila Pub Crawl

More than two years ago, I’ve got the chance to join this group in some of their crawls. Back then, they were known for their “Party Jeepneys” roaming around the streets of Makati, The Fort, and Quezon City. It was kind of sad when they stopped their crawls as many of my friends and acquaintances were looking for the fun they started.

Before the start of 2016, one plane ticket posted in their Facebook Page changed everything. Without any particular details, aside from they will go to Makati, in less than fifteen days, their launch date was booked out! Talk about fans who missed the fun!

It feels weird to leave the island and go back to the city. But it's already 2016, a new beginning. Are you ready to…

Posted by Manila Pub Crawl on Friday, January 1, 2016

This Saturday, they will have their Valentine Crawl Special “to celebrate the love and friendships we have” based on their page. I’ve got the chance to talk to my dear friend, the former Chief Operations Officer of Boracay PubCrawl and now the head of their Manila Branch Redd Panes.

What’s Manila PubCrawl?

RP: In other words, we are a bar-hopping activity. But we are more than just a party. Yes, we go to bars and clubs, and we drink shots. But as our slogan says “Turn Strangers into Friends,” that’s our focus. We make sure that you’ll make new friends at the end of the night. This is the safest place to hang out in a night and to meet interesting people from all over the world. We play games, we have crazy rules, we’re just having pure fun! And our staff are dedicated to ensure that you are having your #bestnightever.

Manila Pub Crawl Best Night Ever

What’s the difference of the New Manila Pub Crawl?

RP: We have three years of research and actual practice in Boracay PubCrawl! We are bringing the elements that made Boracay PubCrawl successful. Here in Manila, it is quite a challenge because the environment and mindset is different but that’s the best part! The unique thing about the Manila PubCrawl is this is a place to really find new friends that you can hang out with or do activities with in the future.

How does it work now? Do you still use the Party Jeepney?

RP: For most of our crawls now, we are doing it Boracay style—walking! Plus, the traffic is horrible. 🙁 So we go to five different places in a night where you get a free shooter in each bar and exclusive drink specials. We still wear the iconic yellow shirt that you can also use in Boracay to get discounted rate in their PubCrawl. But watch out for the return of the Jeepneys in some of our events.

How much is it and what does it cover?

RP: The regular cost is 990 but we have a promo for the launch, which is 50% off or 495, for the first 40 tickets. It covers your shirt, party kits, five free shooters and free entrance in the clubs we will go to. You also get drink specials in every bar.

Pub Crawlers

Why do we have to join PubCrawl?

RP: Because you want to have fun! This is not just for Party People. I was never the party kid before but look at me now! (And you too!) Join PubCrawl to have a safe place to make new friends, to talk to people, to feel that it’s not that hard to talk to strangers. And we have extra perky staff to be your instant wingboy/girl. We even have non-drinkers before but they had fun!

Can you describe the group?

RP: It varies but most of the time, we have 70% locals, 30% foreigners. We try to keep it as diverse as possible. Age wise, from early twenties, sometimes we even have early forties to early fifties joining us. As we say, friendship knows no age, no gender, and no nationality. But for the past that we’ve been doing this, one thing is for sure. They’re all fun.

So this Valentine, what’s special?

RP: Well, we want to make a play on the Valentine. While this is mostly for couples, and some singles take this as an opportunity mope and unleash their collections of hugot, we want to celebrate all the love and friendships we have. Have a group date and enjoy the night as we welcome the celebration. We will have tons of surprises for everyone.

LaBoracay 2015: What to Expect?

For those of you who haven’t been to Boracay, you should know that it’s one of the must-go places in the Philippines. In 2012, Boracay was awarded the title World’s Best Island by Travel & Leisure.

Only about 7 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide, little Boracay is the hub of parties and tourist activities every summer, especially around the months of April and May.  At the White Beach area,  you can practically engage in zillions of activities, like sailing, snorkeling, swimming, parasailing, diving, and island-hopping.  As the sun sets, you can visit the many bars and restaurants along the shore or go shopping at D’Mall.  There’s plenty of live entertainment at the bars where you can eat and drink your heart out.  Many entertainment places operate up to the wee hours of the morning.  There’s always something for everyone in this tiny island.  And if you want to explore further, you can go to Puka Beach where you can feast on sumptuous seafood delights, east to Bulabog Beach for watersporting, and secluded but serene Diniwid Beach.

May 1, a public holiday in the Philippines, happens to fall on a Friday this year. This long weekend would be the perfect time to visit Boracay because of the many fun and exciting activities already slated between the last week of April to the first week of May.  These series of events are collectively part of LaBoracay 2015.  So make a point to join any of these and be a part of the Boracay scene this year!

Exploring Cebu Nightlife

After having a feast in Golden Cowrie and completing the purchase of food items for the Christmas Joys, the iLearners gang where kind enough to let me tag along and took me around to the different night spots of Cebu. It is really cool when you hang-out with the locals since they know where the most awesome places are, not just the common tourist traps. Whenever you find yourself in Cebu, do check-out this cool hang-outs.

Exploring Cebu Nightlife: 1st Stop – Ayala Center Cebu – The Terraces

Actually, we just parked here and I didn’t have a chance to look around much but from what I saw this mall is really nice. The look and feel is similar to Greenbelt 3. No offense, but I never thought that they have something like this in Cebu :). It’s my 2nd time in Cebu (1st time was just half-day so I wasn’t able to explore the city that much) but this is the 1st time that I went to the Ayala Center. This is why I love traveling since I discover new places and get a wider perspective about the places that I visit. I’ll never miss Manila when I have a great place like this to shop, dine and unwind.

Exploring Cebu Nightlife: 2nd Stop – Sky Lounge by Blue Elephant

This bar sits on the rooftop of a 19-storey building – Apple One and has a stunning 360 view of Cebu City. It is just across The Terraces which is in Cebu’s business district. In the Sky Lounge, I was treated with the best view of the skyline of Cebu City. The view from the top is so beautiful. There’s no smog that obstruct the view of the buildings and city lights and when you look up you can see the stars shining brightly. This is a rare treat for someone who lives in the polluted capital like me.

When I looked at the menu, I was surprised to see the prices of their drinks. Some drinks are just about P100. Beer is P60. The one I ordered was Mango Margarita which is just P120! In a similar high-end bar in Manila, the price of the margarita drink would easily be P300.

I really love this place. This is a perfect palce to chill, unwind and hang-out with good friends. By the way, I learned that this place has just recently opened (just a few days ago… I think) and I’m lucky to have the chance to check it out. I definitely recommend that you visit the Sky Lounge by Blue Elephant when you’re in Cebu City.

Exploring Cebu’s Nightlife: 3rd Stop – Distillery Cebu

I’ve been to the other branches of Distillery in The Fort, Taguig and Jupiter, Makati so this is not something new to me. Their brand image has been kept well in this branch which is the first one outside of Metro Manila. They got the same collection of beers and liquors. The one thing that is different is the party atmosphere here or maybe I just always go to Distillery in Manila way too early so the party haven’t started yet.

The Distillery Cebu is located in Unit H Crossroads Mall, Gov M. Cuenco Ave., Banilad, Cebu City

Exploring Cebu’s Nightlife: 4th Stop – Maya Mexican Restaurant

This is also in Crossroads Banilad and just a few steps away from The Distillery. They told me that this Mexican inspired restaurant has the best tasting mojito in Cebu and I agree! It’s the best mojito that I have had so far. I also have to mention the very delicious melted cheese dip for the nachos. I just can’t get enough of it.

Exploring Cebu’s Nightlife: 5th Stop – Starbucks IT Park

After drinking, you should have a coffee, right? The Starbucks in Cebu IT Park is the perfect place to cap the night off. Cebu IT Park is their version of BGC or Eastwood where BPO companies are located. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay for a while since it was already 2am and I’ll be going to Oslob by 3am.

I really had a great time exploring Cebu’s nightlife. Hanging out with the locals made the whole experience really exciting since I wouldn’t have known about these great chillout spots if not for them. Moreover, I was able to get oriented about the city, what restaurants to try, places to visit and other travel tips. So, I would like to say a big THANKS to Doyzkie, Marco, Jem, Dave, RJ and Cyrus.
